“Elliot,” she breathes, and he focuses on her voice. Focuses on the feel of her hand as it lands on his shoulder and grips his deltoid with a nuanced, perfect firmness that only she can manage. She sucks in a breath, searching for the words, only able to land on a general, but necessary, “What the hell happened?”
“Nothing happened, damn it,” he snaps, and it comes out much more venomous than he’d intended as he twists his body in her general direction. He softens some, as her hold on his shoulder lightens up ever-so-slightly, and repeats, “I just needed to see you.”
“Okay,” she says, barely above a whisper, in her best attempt to soothe. “Why don’t you sit? I’m going to get you some water and we can—”
“My marriage is over.”

Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler had been partners, best friends... until one day the daughter of a rape victim came to the Squad room with a gun and opened fire. Elliot, intent on protecting the people in the room... including Olivia... opened fire and killed the girl. Unable to cope with what he'd done, he left and didn't even say goodbye.
A decade has passed and Olivia is en route to her award ceremony when she gets the call... a rental car registered under the name E. Stabler has blown up and there's been a 10-13 called. There's not a moment's hesitation before she turns the car in the direction of the explosion, her mind racing. Questions unanswered and wounds unhealed.

This will be a slow burn Bensler/EO fanfiction. I do not own any of the characters - but following the first chapter or so, the ideas held within are my own. We have waited a decade for the return of the prodigal son, so I want to explore the direction their relationship could take.

This is set post reunion. Based on the spoilers of a possible "Moon Dance." It has been over 10 years since I took a crack at a fic, and I don't have a beta so please forgive any mistakes I missed. Given we had to wait 3 weeks for an episode I wrote this and another fic to fill in some blanks. I have a past history of trauma and was in foster care, so I wrote it from the perspective of how I felt navigating my own struggles. I hope I captured them well and allowed a moment of honesty between them. I was listening to Sara Bareilles Gravity, Sleeping At Last Saturn, and Sia’s My love and the images just came flooding in. I also drew inspiration from the beautiful super moon we had recently. I hope you enjoy your moon dance :).
As always I own nothing, L&O SVU and Organized Crime, Elliot and Olivia all belong to Dick Wolf and NBC. This is E/O centered fic based on what I hope we see at Fins wedding. A girl can hope for a kiss right? Or is a kiss and a dance too much to ask for ;). Heres to hoping we don't get our hearts broken again!
