The shadow becomes a person the closer she gets. It’s a man, close to her age, she thinks. His facial features are like a blurry image in her mind. Like she needs a certain key to unlock that part of him. But what is it?
She knows him, her head says. She knows she does. He feels so familiar, but also someone she’s never met before.
Maggie has met him, her head is telling her. Maybe that was her heart that time.
Something catches her eye then. Something she didn’t notice before. His right arm is missing. A prosthetic is in its place instead, but it’s not the black, metal prosthetic that grabbed her attention. It’s what’s clutched in its grip. A pocket watch. The key.
She doesn’t need to get closer, but she does anyway, the man’s face slowly unraveling before her, features underneath coming up to the surface until all that’s left is a clear face. Carl is numb, it’s all he feels, he doesn’t feel sad his mother left him to die in that school. Doesn’t feel sad his father is probably dead in that hospital, just numb. He walks and walks, avoiding danger and lives everyday the same.
Until he crosses paths with the wrong people, luckily another group saves him. They make him stay with them, promising safety. He can’t leave anyways they won’t let him. He walks with them on the train tracks, heading to a place called ‘Terminus’.

A herd. A herd swept through while they were stuck in a traffic snarl, and that was all it took for Sophia to get separated from the rest of the group. Glenn didn’t even think about it before tearing off into the woods after her. He was one of the only members of this group that could kill the geeks silently, and if someone fired off a round right now, then the whole herd would turn around and tear through them like tissue paper.
It was just two geeks. He could handle that.
Surviving in the woods, however… Glenn had always been a city boy. He was thoroughly out of his element here. But Sophia needed him, and he wasn’t about to fail her. If Lee could protect a little girl with a bad leg and no clue what was going on, then Glenn could keep Sophia safe long enough for them to rejoin the others.
