Summary
First, there is the dark:
Waking, drowning, sideways-slipping.
A creature with three mouths, ten thousand teeth. The inky collapse of a nebula. A demo-dog with no beak.
Mike in the evening. Mike in the afterlife. Mike with sun-swollen cheeks.
Then:
“Disgusting?” Will echoes.
The clock starts to chime. The world seems to shrink.
“You're disgusting,” Mike says, definitive.
“I’ll just–” Will says, but there is no just about it, only floundering fish-feet as he struggles off the couch and to the foot of the stairs, someone behind him promising the juiciest steak you’ll ever eat!
Then:
Compared to Will’s skin, Mike's hand is nearly searing, long-knuckled, sixteen. It fizzles through Will like a lightning strike. In this moment, in the car, Will wants him.
Will always wants him – his dimples, his fine-motor skills, his tongue caught between his teeth.
or, after Vecna captures Will, things go a little differently.

Summary
Billy shoves off his jean jacket and gestures at his arm, revealing three bands that grow thicker as they stack. Two are dull like aged tattoos, but the top one, the thickest one, weeps red. He points at the thinnest, the bottom one, and says, “A mate mark,” then the next, “Werewolf,” then the next, “Alpha.”
Steve doesn’t laugh, although he feels like it’s burbling on the edge of his tongue, unhinged and wanting. “I’m not a werewolf.”
“And I wasn’t an alpha. Human mates in packs are rare, but they happen.”
-
Or, something attacks Will in the woods, Steve goes on a terrible evening drive, and Billy gets a lot he didn't ask for. Mike is -- Well, he's Mike. -

Summary
“I didn’t tell you to do that.”
“You didn’t need to,” Buck says, pulling a fistful of forks from the suds to scrub them all together. “If you’re coming back for good–”
“Just because Chimney said–”
“Because he said what?” Buck asks, sharper than he means to.
Outside, there is a caterpillar slinking its slow, green way up the drainpipe of the house next door. Buck watches it a moment before turning on the tap to rinse, Eddie overlapping the water like, “I didn’t make any promises. I still have to talk to Chris, and there’s so much shit involved in moving, you know that.”
“Really? It’s been a week, Eddie.”
Or, Buck tells Eddie he's looking for an apartment.

Summary
When they're nineteen, Boyd shoots a bird.
He's shot a lot of things before, hunting ducks and flighty rabbits and wide-eyed does. He's been prowling around the forest after his daddy since he could carry the heft of a rifle. This is different. This isn't sport.
He doesn't mean to shoot this bird.

Summary
For three days, Raylan’s been getting phone calls from Rachel, and Tim, and even goddamn Vasquez, like he thinks Raylan will dump his brains out for quarters and lint and use them to pay for the next flight out to Lexington with his gun already in hand.
He’s retiring. He already filled out the paperwork. He made promises.
But it itches, burns all the way up his spine like fire ants or a carving knife.
Boyd Crowder is out of prison.
He cannot, will not, refuses to pick up the phone.
-
Or, Boyd sends Raylan a present. Raylan picks up the phone.

Summary
Darnell nodded, glancing over Robby like he was trying to place him in the hierarchy of important to ignorable and it could go either way. "What's this?"
"MSF FNG," Jack shot back. Whatever that meant, he sounded amused.
Darnell scoffed and looked to Robby, expression going decidedly unimpressed. "Oh, yeah? You here to find yourself? Have an adventure? Do something hard?" he asked, each question more mocking than the last.
And there was that question again, like it was haunting Robby. He stifled his instinct to bite back and kept it simple: "I'm here to help."

Summary
They both know this is it. That beyond this barren landscape, whatever they found here will cease to exist.
It was born here and it’ll die here, and Eddie will spend the rest of his life missing it, but he’s not allowed to take it with him. They have to bury it - dig six feet down and submerge it in the sun-scorched earth so she can remember it for them. So she can cradle it and keep it safe, where no one can ever touch it. Where no one can ever taint it.
(Buck and Eddie meet in Afghanistan. It changes everything.)

Summary
“Well, in my experience,” Raylan said, brushing off his hat and staving down the sick surprise that had twisted his gut at the sight of Boyd’s name. “There’s one thing most folks have in common, irrespective of time passed or time changed. They stay dead.”
