“Hey! Wait!” His steps stilled, and after a moment, he turned to face Chrom. “I don’t remember you from the war. We never fought.”
“Gangrel kept his tactician off the field. It was not by my choice.”
Surprised, Chrom looked over the fairly young prince. “It was your idea to hide reinforcements in the Fell Dragon’s skull. That was a brilliant maneuver.” He could still remember the barbarian forces pouring from the old bones in nearly overwhelming numbers.
“Not brilliant enough,” Robin replied. “If you’ll remember, your highness, it was Ylisse that won the day.”
“It was luck on our side. Without it, we would have surely failed.”
“I don’t believe in luck.” Robin smiled, tilting his head. The tall crown cut the air, jagged spikes like clawing fingers that cast shadows over the ground. The fire behind him, torches on the wall, created a halo of light around his body. “Apologies, Prince Chrom, but I have other things to see to. If you’ll excuse me…” He bowed, low, but he kept his eyes on Chrom. Then, turning, he walked down the hallway. Past where the torches were lit, he was swallowed by darkness.
