  Summary

  It turned out “normal life” didn't exist anymore. Neither the Chemist, nor anyone on Alpha could be helped – the world they were familiar with was falling apart, with no possibility to prevent it, and so were their minds. The Counselor had no need to look out from the window to guess what horrors within the people's psyches had been unleashed. If she had the time to close her eyes and relax for a moment, she would had been able to see them, as clear as she saw the swollen face of the Chemist before her: floods of people spilling out on the streets, flowing in a chaotic, unstable rhyme, each and every face twisted into a grotesque mask of terror, thousands of bulging eyes searching frantically for a sign of rescue, primal panic shutting their brains off. But she didn't have such an opportunity.
