Lexi twists her fingers together shyly. Scuffs the toe of her sneaker on the floor. “So I’ll see you tomorrow?”
There's the best kind of surprise lining his features when she plucks up the courage to look at him. A halo of crystalline light exploding behind his iridescent eyes, like even though he’d suggested it, he hadn’t quite been expecting her to take him up on the offer. And it feels like hope, tastes like understanding sweet and sugary on her tongue, because Lexi hadn’t quite been expecting to make a friend today either.

“He ain’t available right now.” Fez jokes, eyelids heavy as he traces a lazy circle over her collarbone.
A year or maybe even six months ago, Lexi might have curled into herself at that. Scrunched her face up, laughed at her own fleeting absurdity in thinking that somebody might actually want to hear what she had to say.
Now, instead, she lightly smacks his chest, a smile colouring her tone when she protests. “No listen. It’s important.”
Fez lets his eyes flicker open, smiling himself now too because damn straight it is.
