Charlie Morningstar has spent so long being someone else that she’s forgotten what it’s like to just be a person.
She’s a reputation before she’s a name, something whispered about, avoided, and watched. People don’t really like to talk to her. They prefer talking around her. And after a while, she stops trying to change that.
It’s easier to be alone when you act like you prefer it.
Then Vaggie walks into her life. Or, the university gates
And... For the first time, it feels like nobody's afraid of her. Vaggi's more annoyed by the hierarchy rather than afraid. She is just someone who looks at Charlie and doesn't see a title, a warning, or a problem to be managed.
She sees her.
And Charlie doesn’t know what to do with that.
Because wanting to be understood is one thing.
But letting someone close enough to try...?
That’s something else entirely.
