The curtains in the parlor are closed, but still there is a sliver of moonlight that's crept its way out, like the moon refuses to let Remus out of its sight. It glistens on the scars at the corners of his mouth, pinched and wrinkled as they are when his lips are pursed. As well as Sirius knows the way they pull when Remus smiles, more and more he knows them too when a smile seems impossible. "This would all be easier if we were...young again."
Sirius slides his fingers up and down the keys, lightly enough that they don't make a sound. "We aren't, Moony," he says quietly. "We'll never be young again."

Sir Michael assesses them both. He seems to accept whatever he finds, nodding slowly. “I see. My apologies, it seems I have gotten ahead of myself. For how long have you two been courting, then?”
Someone chokes behind them, and for a second, Mike honestly thinks he’s misheard him. The look on his face is dead serious, though, stoic in a way that makes it very clear he’s not joking.
“What?” he croaks. He looks over at Will, who looks just as caught off guard as he feels.
“You need not be shy,” Michael reassures them, back straightening. “I, too, was hesitant when William and I first began our courtship. I understand.”
When Mike’s doppelgänger shows up dressed like something straight out of one of their D&D campaigns, Mike thinks he ought to be thrilled. There are alternate universes. There are alternate universes with knights and wizards and dragons. And, honestly, Mike probably would be thrilled, under normal circumstances. The guy is just so weird about him and Will.

That seemed to be the right thing to say because Will blushed hot and ducked his head slightly, giving him the same frantic, flustered look he’d become used to before Will went to college and got a boyfriend and became so unbearably pretty it kind of choked the life out of Mike to be alone with him.
Will won't shut up about his new boyfriend. Mike is totally Normal about it.

Their shoulders brushed again, slow and equally savored. The kind of movement you couldn't pretend was an accident.
So Will brushed back, just barely. Testing. Flirting. Mike inhaled softly, the faintest noise escaping him. And then he spoke like he was physically unable to stay silent any longer.
“Will? If… if that boy you like…” he was standing so close that Will could feel the warmth of him against the cold air. “…If you ever wanted to tell him…”
Will felt his breath stop.

“I know, I know, I know it’s not your fault. But you know what?” Will steps closer, “it doesn’t change the fact that it feels like your fault.” With a shove on Mike’s shoulder, he painfully adds, “it feels like it’s all your fault.”
When everyone suddenly masters the art of communication, Mike and Will give it a shot. They don't get it right on the first try.
