Simon knew she wasn’t aware of his presence in the mornings. And he quite enjoyed that. He actually started going on the early hours just for her. To watch from afar. To make sure nobody tried anything unwanted with her. Although it was tempting to sit right next to her and wait for her to start a small-talk, he knew he couldn’t. He couldn’t ruin the silent acknowledgement.
If this was the creature she was supposed to fear, then the world is doomed. Right at this moment he wasn’t a killing machine soldier, who tortured and broke people in half. He was a man with tired eyes and too much pressure on his shoulders.
She wanted this to last. To believe that everything would feel the way it did right now. But a tight, suffocating feeling crept up in her chest, telling her that this is too much. It won’t be like this forever. He will make her feel blue and grey. Tears flew from her eyes before she even noticed them build up. She held her breath, not wanting to alarm him, to ruin this moment.Simon being a guard dog, a little creepy, a little sad.

But before she could whimper at the sensation, she smelled the alcohol and suddenly remembered that this was, in fact, real. She pushed his chest hard, making him step back. His lips were red and wet, his eyes glossy. He was breathing quickly.
