The sink has hot water. That's a marvel unto itself. The Ghoul lets it run over his hand.
"The shower works, too," Lucy says. "I haven't checked, but if the sink works, the shower will. Vault water chips are an all or nothing situation."
"Huh."
"It's funny, seeing you standing there." Lucy sits on the bed they're supposed to share. "This is exactly like the apartment my husband and I were going to share in Vault 33." When the Ghoul looks at her, she stops cold. "Not that you're my husband. Obviously. Or that this is anything like that. Or that either of us chose to be here. Actually, you know what? I think I'm just going to test out that shower anyway."
The Ghoul chuckles.
A radstorm chases the Ghoul and Lucy MacLean into a seemingly abandoned vault, but. Well. It's Vault-Tec, after all.

Summary
The smoke billowed out in large plumes that Es tracked upward until they dissipated into the sky. The Mirage ebbed and then surged above them, washing the warm evening air a light purple. A friend once told Es they could read the Mirage. That it moved in a rhythm. It was a dance, you just had to learn the steps. They had insisted purple was a good omen. Something about stability, or safety maybe. She'd believed them at the time, she'd seen a lot of things in this place worth believing. But it all felt a bit foolish now as she looked out on the wreckage of her ship tinted by the hazy purple glow.
