Summary
The realization that he couldn’t save his brothers hit Rex just as hard as any blaster would have.
He had fought beside some of these men, his brothers – though the longnecks certainly would have decommissioned him for calling them that – for years now, others for months and some only days. He loved them, wanted to protect them, to save them from dying in this meaningless war, and he was glad to say that the Generals he worked with, as well as his Commander, tried their best to keep it that way. The 212th and 501st’s casualty rates had been some of the lowest in the entire GAR. He was thankful for the Jedi, even when their recklessness got them injured, but they never failed in protecting his brothers when they could.
General Pong Krell certainly didn’t, though - and Rex had to find out the hard way. -
