Umemiya huffs out a laugh.
It is then that she realises just how loud she has become, and she flushes all over again in embarrassment. It is embarrassing, still, to know that little has changed. She might not be in love with him anymore but something is still there—and it will always be there. The fact that he could so easily offer her this, as if it was something without consequence, like she hadn’t spent years untangling herself from the idea of him—
“You deserve to have a lovely night,” Umemiya says quietly, gaze almost imploring with how hard he is staring her down over the cocktail still frozen by her mouth. “So, if you want, the offer is on the table.”
A friend in need is a friend indeed, even if it takes five years.
