After Captain Janeway contracts an illness during an expedition to an uninhabited planet and orders USS Voyager to leave her behind, a certain hardheaded Astrometrics officer isn't so keen on abandoning her Captain. As Janeway and Seven learn to navigate the strange new dynamic forming between them, it becomes apparent that the planet they now call home has a much deeper story to tell--one that seems to defy logic, reality, and even the natural order of time itself.

This is a standalone fic but can be read as additional worldbuilding to my "For the Optics" series. Timeline runs about a year prior to the events of "A Binding of Stars."

Summary
Set only weeks after their time as unwitting prisoners of the labor camp on the planet Quarra, some of the crew thrive as they seek connection, yet others are struggling and withdrawn.
The EMH is worried about the Captain who is plagued with insomnia and deteriorating health so devises a new treatment for her on the holodeck.
Meanwhile, Tom Paris worries the Captain might be hiding a terrible secret & Chakotay struggles to bridge the growing distance between himself and Kathryn as murmurs among the crew of medical intervention finally get him to act on his building concern and near-forgotten longing.
After the ship helps some stranded aliens, an emerging threat surfaces; fluctuating power, unexpected matter conversion and an unknown source.
Trapped on the holodeck together, the Captain and Chakotay face a shocking development in their struggle to escape.
With the Captain's health rapidly failing, will the crew come together in time to solve the ship-wide mystery and save the command team in time, or will the crew face bigger losses, as one crisis precipitates another.
