Summary
Jack successfully distracted Robby with talk of an atypical stroke in a twenty-year-old as they walked just down the street. Robby was so focused on asking him questions that he didn't much pay attention as Brandon led the way inside, past the bouncers and through a dark doorway, the low beat of sensual music rising as they entered. Which meant that Jack got the unparalleled joy of watching Robby as he pulled up short just inside, his eyes widening as he took in the stage, the glittering lights, the gleaming poles, and the parade of half-naked women on display. "What the fuck," he muttered, not a question.
"Oh, have you not heard of Lola's? It's all the rage," Jack said innocently, trying to control his grin.
Robby locked onto him, expression going stormy. "Et tu, Brute?"

Summary
“So walk me through it, then.”
They’re not at the hospital. They’re on the roof of Robby’s apartment building. There’s no railing here. No safe place to retreat behind. There’s just Robby standing on brick, the battered edges of his Reeboks touching the cool night air and nothing else. Jack has hit that point where fear has gone white hot, reforming itself into anger. Fear shuts you down. Anger kept you moving. (Kept you alive.)

Summary
As soon as Jack registers that there’s a person-sized shadow huddled on the front steps to his apartment, he knows that it’s Robby. He recognizes the contours of the body backlit by the bulb which illuminates the steps: short hair disarrayed, limned with gold in the light; the line of his throat, starkly pale beside the soft thick darkness of his beard; the defeated slope of his shoulders under the same green long-sleeved shirt he wore during his shift. Jack slows his pace as he approaches. Robby must notice him, the only figure on the empty street, but he doesn’t move.
