Summary
In the wake of the Tourney at Ashford Meadow, Prince Maekar realizes his sons are not what he hoped they would be. With Aegon squiring for a hedge knight, and Aerion exiled across the Narrow Sea, Daeron is the last to face his father's wrath. Melantho of Tyrosh did not want to marry Prince Daeron, and Daeron did not want to marry anyone. As if anyone asked either of them.
“I hope I am not so disappointing after all,” he said, but there was a sadness to his voice instead of humor. “You should know, my lady– this marriage was not my doing. I had preferred not to marry at all, it was my father who wanted…”
Her heart caught in her throat. He did not want her, he had not asked for her. He had avoided her bed because he did not wish to be a husband. If any hope had bloomed in her chest seeing him neatened up and presentable, it slipped away like smoke. “I did not ask for it either,” she said evenly. “I follow my father’s command."

And suddenly it occurred to Daeron why his father had agreed to this marriage and sent him to Runestone.
If he could do nothing else of importance, then at least he could sire the next lord or lady of House Royce. All he’d have to do, he realized as he stared at those dark curls and that fierce gaze, was put a babe in Lady Rhonwyn Royce’s belly. A quick glance down her bodice and at the supple flesh there told him that may be a more enjoyable task than he originally thought.
Alternatively, Daeron gets his own sort of Bronze Fury.

"You agreed to this?" was the first coherent thing he was able to say, his eyes glazing over the picture of the bride and taking in no detail. It may as well have been a picture of a tree or the shoreline.
"The king and Balor agreed," Maekar said, which meant no. "It was my debt to pay," he added, which meant your grandfather can tell I can't handle you animals without Dyanna, and "The boy saved Aemon's life," which meant there were worse ways we could have gotten to this point.
"I-I..." he began haltingly, then winced. "Father, what am I supposed to do?"
Maekar looked briefly annoyed, but it was overtaken by an exhaustion. "Well don't play coy, boy. I know you know where to stick it."
