Summary
Sarabande - a slow, stately dance in triple time.
Before the Shattering, Order still holds sway in the Lands Between. Praetor Rykard is a ruthless inquisitor of the Golden Order, enforcing its will by the point of his sword and the curve of the breaking wheel. The doubts he harbors are his own, coiling around his heart and envenoming his soul, day by day. There is no room in that heart for weakness or vulnerability - until he meets Tanith, contracted as diplomatic entertainment by her foreign queen.
Tanith is a dancer, hired by nobility to dance for a foreign dignitary, drawn to the stern man as a moth is to flame. But a moth Tanith is not, and Rykard's ambitions will not burn her. Perhaps the very gods will have reason to fear their union.
