Summary: Mickey Milkovich has been through it. Because of the abuse of his father, Mickey often slips into little space, and while his sister Mandy and brother Iggy love him just as he is, Iggy can’t take care of him alone and Mandy has an opportunity that’s just too good to pass up. Trying to find a solution for everybody before she leaves, Mandy comes across a ‘dating’ app for littles. Iggy and Mandy join together to sign Mickey up, without him knowing. Boy is that a risky move.
Ian Gallagher, a highly sought-after caretaker, is little-less. Looking for a new little to care for, Ian reactivates his account on Little Link. After his last little got a lot weird, he was a bit hesitant to take on a new client, but his need to put his skills to use and take care of someone in need is too strong to ignore. The last thing he expected was to come across this blue-eyed, raven-hair sweetheart from his past. The last thing he expected was to fall in love.

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Chicago, intruders silently murder Ian Gallagher's family and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Ian will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there are no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents—telekinesis and telepathy—who got to this place the same way Ian did: Mickey, Mandy, Geneva. They are all in Front Half. Others, Ian learns, graduated to Back Half, “like the roach motel,” Mandy says. “You check in, but you don’t check out.”

In this most sinister of institutions, the director, Ms. Yevegina, on loan from a sister site in Muryevo, and her staff are dedicated to extracting from these children, at any cost, the force of their extranormal gifts. There are no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for the vending machines, serving drinks, snacks, and drugs. If you don’t go along, punishment is brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, and his connections to the other subjects grow stronger, Ian becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help. But no one has ever escaped from the Institute. -
