One way or another, Mairon would find a way to come between them, and he knew that he had to do so without getting burned in the process. But Míriel, wretched temptress that she was, lured him into her web by dangling in front of him a most delicious carrot: her piety.
Mairon longed to break her of it. He longed to drag her down into the muck, and fill her mouth with it (among other things)! If she was good, maybe he would have to keep her around... he was, after all, particularly talented in that regard.
