Dave Strider and Karkat Vantas work side by side in a popular downtown studio. The two of them are artists of some pretty popular traction, enough to make decent money for their work. The two of them don’t always get along, though, as much as they inadvertently influence each other’s work.
Dave specializes in making the most abstract and symbolically dense pieces of art humanly possible, using every media under the sun to make something objectively shitty. Karkat on the other hand, is more traditional. Dave is a little jealous of Karkat’s raw talent and ability to climb the local art scene as a generally self-taught, self-made artist. He really, really admires it nonetheless. Karkat finds Dave a little pretentious about his tastes in fine art and his master’s degree from MICA.
