Summary
He freezes when Jason's eyes snap up, and he stumbles back, widening the gap between them. Bruce doesn't try to approach him again, his heart in his throat.
"You're not my dad." Jason mumbles, and Bruce watches as the boy's pupils shrink, and he looks horrified at something Bruce can't see. He's staring right at him, but for some reason, it feels as though Jason is looking through him.
The words sting like acid, and Bruce ignores the crushing of his lungs, "I… okay. Okay Jason."
"No, no, Bruce." Jason sounds frantic, and he pulls at his hair, "You're not my dad. You're different."
(Bruce is late to patrol, Jason freaks out. And finally, they talk — better late than never, after all.)

I am sorry, he wanted to say.
He was sorry all these years. Sorry for not figuring out how to help his mother, and then for not being enough for Sheila. For dying and bringing nothing but grief and disappointment to the people, who believed in him once. And then was sorry for being alive again, for dragging out the casket the corpse of a boy everyone loved, and turning him into a man they were disgusted of.
But his home felt too small now, and the arms wrapped around him were so warm that Jason didn’t feel regret for once. At least, for not being back.
Because… because if he wasn't then who would help figure out his little brother all this stupid stuff he struggled with? Right?
(Or, no one had told Jason that they were happy he was alive until once someone did, and it changed everything.)

Summary
Jason’s body is killing him. It’s been pouring outside all day, which has every joint in his miserable body creaking like he’s the fucking Tin Man. He and Babs have been standing (or sitting, in Barbara’s case) in line for barely an hour, and already Jason wishes he hadn’t left the apartment today. Pain shoots through his legs and hips no matter how much he fidgets and shifts his weight. His back prickles with pins and needles. And don’t even get him started on his neck, which is so sore he can hardly turn his head without wincing.
In hindsight, he probably should have brought the cane. Not that he'll ever admit that to Roy; the guy would never let him live it down.
