He looked at her curiously, and she felt bare before him. She cried off and on throughout the afternoon, so she knew she looked far from her usually put together self. Her eyes red rimmed and swollen, cheeks puffy, her dress wrinkled. “Genny, what—”
“Answer the question.”
“No, you’ve not asked me for anything, but you can, and I will do whatever—”
“I want a baby,” she interrupted, knowing if she didn’t say it then, she might never.
He stared at her. “What?”
“I want a baby. I want to be a mother, I want my own flesh and blood, and I— Camelot needs an heir. It’s my job to give you your heir, and I want it.” She tugged at her sleeves.
He stood, looking much paler than before. He crossed the room to shut the door, the creak of the door hinge sending a shiver down her spine. “...what?” he asked again, his voice weak.
“Arthur.”
