Summary
Deacon has a few tricks for navigating the Railroad: Don’t make assumptions. Don’t die. Definitely don’t get attached.
But sticking to the list is easier said than done when it comes to his new partner-in-espionage. Jeanne has a chip on her shoulder and pre-war degrees in combat medicine and failed revolutions. "Don’t get attached” becomes especially tricky when he realizes that more than a partner, what Jeanne needs is a friend. Because when it comes to Institute conspiracies, some answers are so devastating she may be better off living a lie.
~~~
Slooow burn. Deacon is trans and nonbinary, Sole Survivor is Québécois. Full of that good good missing Canadian annexation lore. Buckle up: mindfuckery, identity issues, and canon divergent plot twists ahead.Now a comic:
Summary
He hadn't anticipated any of this — how could he? It was supposed to be a fucking recon mission, maybe a chance to trade blows with the Institute if he was lucky, not a torturous deep-dive into his traumatic past.
And now this vaultie...fuck. There's a complication he really didn't need. She's shaken something loose beneath his mask, an instinct he hasn't felt in a very long time. Something fierce and covetous, born of a bone-deep need to comfort and protect.
That Deacon will do whatever he can to help her is a foregone conclusion, he realizes. The only question remaining is how far he's willing to go to do it.
A survivor and a wanderer, from worlds as alike as they are different, collide. The wasteland will never be the same, and neither will Deacon.
Summary
Modern AU
Professor Dekarios was eager to return to his position as head of the literature department at his alma mater, Blackstaff Academy. In his beloved hometown of Waterdeep, the Prof was still recovering from his painful and lengthy divorce with his ex-wife, Mystra, thus taking a yearlong sabbatical to deal with the grief. Gale hoped this new school year was exactly what he needed to get back onto his feet and right his life again from the feeling of imploding doom he felt within. It was upon his return he would learn there would be a new librarian at the school, and with a blossoming friendship, his mending heart too would learn how to love again with her help.
Summary
He unexpectedly turned as he closed the door and caught Daphne observing him. Their eyes met, she blushed in embarrassment, and—
Every time he smiled, really smiled with his whole face, the world around him seemed to dim in comparison. He made her want to take up painting again. Or pastels, or any of the other art forms she’d left behind when she graduated from RISD and started her first bookmaking apprenticeship. She’d never felt compelled to make representational art, but Gale Dekarios in the full bloom of joy was absolutely worth representing.
In which tiny, remote Icepeak College mysteriously hires a massively overqualified antiquities scholar in the middle of term, and its book arts workshop director finds herself inexorably pulled into his orbit. In her defense, he's really fucking hot.
