Summary
Two years of being mated to Mike Wheeler should be an absolute dream. And for a long time, it was.
But somewhere between the sudden launch of a media company and the late midnight arrivals, the flowers stop coming. The shared dinners fade away. Will goes from being entirely consumed by his alpha's warmth to learning exactly how to live without his alpha in his own apartment.
As the missed connections turn into a suffocating week, Will stops complaining. He stops asking Mike to come home early. If he can just learn to be quieter and entirely not be a burden , maybe Mike will look at him again.

It's nothing like the first time, desperate and pent-up from a lifetime of hiding from it. Or the second time, sweet and tender like it was could slip away at any moment. It's its own thing—Will's impossible magic hands in Mike's curls and Mike holding him tight by the waist with the relief of someone who's really, really glad he didn't die.
The world might be coming to an end, but there’s nothing Mike and Will’s love can’t survive.

Summary
Today isn't about him at all. It's Jane's perfect reunion with her boyfriend, and Will doesn't have a place within it. It doesn't matter that he's missed Mike, too. It doesn't matter that today is Will's birthday. He shouldn't even be there, not when their plans are only really for Jane and Mike. He's intruding, and he knows himself well enough to know that he's not going to be able to put on a happy face and let himself be excluded without showing just how badly it hurts him. He'll only ruin their time together if he sticks around.
Will decides to go home by himself rather than go with Mike and Jane to Rink-O-Mania.
