  3. Summary

    Michael is terrified.
no. That is incorrect. Michael is always terrified, and in this way it becomes the norm—a low level sickness of sorts, in every shaking hand, in every quick glance to make sure no one’s looking.

    Michael is terrified.
it can feel the fractal-spiral-angular-swirling mess of thoughts in what it might have called a brain, perhaps, if it had an identity to begin with. It does not, it lies to itself, and thus perpetuates its own horror.

    Michael is terrified.
But it wasn’t like there was any other option.

Title from the mind electric because it is the quintessential distortion song and you cannot tell me otherwise

    Summary

On the 7th of June, the night after the failed revolution, the Seine spits out a wretched creature from its murky depths. This creature was once Javert: legalist, upright citizen and Police Inspector of the 12th Arrondissement of Paris; now he is none of these things. He is no different than any of the criminals he’s hunted over the years. Lower than, for believing he could ever escape it! But, at last, he sees himself for what he truly is, what the world has always known him to be — a beast.

    How miserable.

    Summary

If Javert had an opinion, it would be that expecting a machine to perform its duty with maximum efficiency while also spending processor power on unnecessary imitations of biological life is fundamentally illogical. If Javert had an opinion, it would be that a machine with illogical expectations placed upon it would never be able to meet those expectations. It could never perform to capacity.

Javert does not, of course, have an opinion.

    Summary

To the southwest of Revachol, far into the wild pale yonder is a radio repeater station. On this station is a corpse -- a woman killed in cold blood. There is no suspect. There are no clues. It is a thoroughly impossible death, a murder in utter isolation.

Two officers arrive on the scene. Voices bleed from the tower above. Something is horribly wrong.

    Summary

"We at the Theraprism are happy to tell you that your spouse is safe and healthy.”

    “I don’t have a spouse.” Said Ford.

“Yes, you do.” The entity pulled out a holographic binder. “Here, I have the paperwork."

Ford, suddenly assaulted by ghosts of lost, alcohol-soaked, hazy, whisp-like memories circling in the periphery of his mind, went deathly pale and had to take a step back to lean his weight against the cash-counter.

“I- That- That cannot have been legally binding!"
