James laid a warm hand on his shoulder as he sat on his bed, still dripping wet from the rain, the stains of mud utterly ruining his sheets. “I am sorry, Sherlock.”
“Don't be,” he muttered, voice strangled and throat closing up again. “I was a fool. I am a fool, to have believed him my whole life, to have believed him again and fallen into his arms, into his trap.”
The tears started falling before he could help them.
James kneeled on the floor before him, hand still warm on his shoulder, his usual smirk gone from his face. “You're not to fault for this.”

Summary
Midoriya Izuku is struggling. With the Hero Commission on his back, working and living alone, he forgets how to ask for help. When Nezu finds him a job as a professional analyst at an underground agency, he's sure it's just what he needs to find himself again. It's not like his smoking and less-than-ideal sleeping schedule are going to come back to bite him later...
Shinso Hitoshi is worried about Midoriya. His smiles are weak, the sparkle in his eyes is dim, and he's working a second night job as Metis. He decides it's his time to intervene, just as his friend had when they were in school. He would not allow the other hero to slowly perish as everyone else watches—he's going to help, whether Midoriya likes it or not.
Alternatively, Izuku hates the limelight, finds out he's really good at quirk analysis, falls in love, and rediscovers himself and his quirk in underground heroics.

Summary
A story about first steps and overcomings, divided in three acts.
Despite his quirklessness, Izuku is set on becoming a Hero. He will do whatever it takes to get into Yuuei, the top university in Japan for aspiring heroes.
Given a rough start with dysfunctional foster families, he will learn young what it truly means to be a hero or a villain in this world.
Determined and bloody-eyed, this is how he takes what he wants from those unwilling to help people in need.(Essentially a growing-up story set in a different universe, where Yuuei is a capable university and the Hero Society isn't as broken as in canon.)
