Summary
Chris remembers, suddenly, the days after his mom died, the feeling of dread that lingered under his skin. The way it slowly bubbled up, over the years, until he couldn’t be this kid anymore, this kid who could look at the world and not see danger in every corner. He wishes that Theo will never be like that. He knows, living with a first responder, that the odds of him turning out any other way are against him.
“Hey, Theo,” he says suddenly, the words spilling from his lips without permission. “Do you think Buck is your dad?”
Christopher isn't sure how he feels about Theo, or what he means for him and Buck. When they're caught up in a disaster alone, he has plenty of time to figure it out.

Bookmarker's Notes
Christopher’s heart thumps once. Your Buck, his dad has called Buck again and again, over years and years. And it’s been true for so long. Buck has been his Buck, Christopher’s Buck, Buck who puts Christopher first, in a way that Chris can’t quite quantify the meaning of but can trust nevertheless. In a way that they never say out loud, but is true in all the ways that matter the most, in tsunamis and hand-drawn cards and lightning strikes and uber rides and horse riding lessons.
Christopher’s Buck, but not really. Not anymore.
It makes his eyes well up, stupid and useless. He wants his Buck, here, who would know what to do when the world falls apart. He wants his dad, in the same sort of hopeless way.
“Yeah,” he says, the words a little wet, hiding his face in Theo’s curls. “Our Buck.”

Summary
“I have no idea what’s going on.” He was embarrassed at the whiny note in his voice, but he couldn’t swallow it away. “I mean, the last thing I remember, I was telling my parents that I was leaving Texas. And then all of the sudden I wake up and it’s like—”
Like some stranger named Buck had infiltrated every corner of his life. That’s what it felt like.
——
Amnesiac Eddie tries really hard to hate Buck. It doesn’t stick.

“Counterpoint,” said Eddie, reaching out to grab Buck’s hand where it was pointing towards him, and pressed a kiss onto his knuckles, just to see his reaction. “My procedural memory is still intact.”
“Yeah, Chim said you were acing the practice tests. But what does that have to do with anything?”
“You know, muscle memory,” said Eddie, rubbing his thumb across the skin of his hand. “Habits, learned skills, you know, everything that’s second nature.” He used his pointer finger to tap the side of his head, “all the important stuff I need to function.”
“So—”
“So, that includes loving you.”

Christopher implies that he doesn't want to be in LA, and Buck reacts accordingly. Also, Bobby's alive, there's a building collapse, and those two things may or may not be connected.

Bookmarker's Notes
Buck focuses on the open wound in his back instead, because that hurts less. Actually, it does hurt less, which is probably not great. He ignores it, because there’s no reason to say anything when nothing can be done. “But,” he whispers instead, his oldest friend meeting his eyes with a void from behind Bobby. “Those were- they were your last words. To me.”
Bobby exhales. “Buck,” he says. “My last words to you were that I loved you.”

Summary
“You said you talked to Hen about”—Ravi makes a vague, conjuring gesture, even though Eddie can’t see it—“all this yesterday, right? She dresses the best out of all of us. You should ask her for fashion advice.”
“I tried.” Eddie huffs. “She said, verbatim, ‘I’m not your gay Yoda.’”
With that, the fitting room stall’s lock finally clicks open, the door swinging open with a muted groan. Eddie steps out, arms spread wide. “Alright. What do we think?”
From an objective standpoint, he looks good. He looks really good. Objectively speaking.
From a subjective standpoint, he looks like someone Buck wants to pin against the nearest surface and fuck until they’re both stupid.
“Handsome, you are,” Buck croaks.
