It had taken Barok a very long time to notice that he has never seen Naruhodo truly cry. Some part of him may have even erroneously thought that Naruhodo could never feel despair.
Until now: when Naruhodo kneels upon the wooden floorboard amidst a mess of Barok’s luggage, loosely cupping a small satin box in his hands.
Barok sees Ryunosuke crying on the floor, having found something Barok had been saving as a surprise.

Summary
“Come on, you know I don’t like it when I talk about myself after a game!”
Barok doesn’t even dignify the excuse with a verbal answer and instead just leans his massive bulk forward to bite his shoulder, the pace of his heavy thrusts brutal and unceasing.
(The less said about the noise Ryunosuke made—because it wasn’t any variation of ‘ouch’—the better.)
Ryunosuke comes home to a jealous boyfriend that heard his post-game interview. Thankfully, he knows how to deal with those.

Summary
The voice nearly cuts him down like a samurai having succumbed to ambush; though he remains standing in front of his two mentors, a shiver visibly ripples through his body at the sound of that familiar baritone.
Ryunosuke turns around.
“Lord van Zieks?”
“Congratulations, Mister Naruhodo,” Lord van Zieks says. His expression is as stoic as ever, but somehow Ryunosuke thinks it has softened since the last time they met. It is a terrible combination that is definitely bad for his heart.
Ryunosuke officially graduates from the Imperial Yumei University. In lieu of celebrating with family, he gets something much better as a reward for all his efforts.

Summary
Now that he and his undeniable cohort of victims from the Professor’s shrapnel are finally unshackled from that case’s hauntings, Barok can see Naruhodo clearer now. He can see subtle shifts and slight movements from different angles, glints and flashes within his eyes as he rebuilds himself with a smile, a thin veneer of detachment that is enough to keep himself protected. It is what Barok had done before, in his own youth after Klint’s death, but taken to the other extreme.
It is a masterful performance for someone to play such an ordinary fool, to laugh so vividly while an endless void lay curtained beneath his eyelids.
Barok knows he is not entitled to any of Ryunosuke's secrets, but that does not stop him from desperately wanting to know all of him anyway.

Summary
Nearly one year later, he runs a tight ship on his farm. Every stretch of grass is clear of unnecessary weeds and debris, his crops and animals are yielding high quality product, and his house is even deemed “so wonderfully cozy” by his niece (as if she had not been the one to essentially decorate it). Thanks to his contributions to raise the quality of life around town, its prestige has also exceeded its original ranks within the kingdom.
There is just one problem.
“The statue on your farm is broken?”
When Barok leaves the Capital to help his brother’s ailing countryside town, he never expected farming and town revitalization to come with added perks.

“Please,” Kazuma persists. “Please, you have to know something about this. Can you at least tell me who might have done this to me?”
The corner of Barok’s mouth quirks up in a tight, cruel smile. “If I had to guess, Kazuma Asougi, I would say that you did this to yourself.”
Kazuma tenses at the accusation. His hand clenches next to his hip as though he has instinctively reached to draw a sword. His spirit has none to draw, of course, making the gesture a futile one. He relaxes, then, his anger at the accusation a passing storm.
“At least tell me who you are,” he says. “Why can you see me when no one else can?”
Barok tilts his head, curious. “I am the Reaper of the Bailey.”
