    Riki’s expression shifts subtly, a flicker of something more intense crossing his face. “I’m twenty-one. The law considers me an adult,” he replies, voice dropping an octave, steady and low like a promise. He squares his shoulders, standing directly in front of her. Even with her heels, she has to tilt her head slightly upward to meet his gaze. His eyes search hers, sincere and unwavering. “The real question is… do you consider me an adult?”
