Summary
Everything is going to work out, Mariner tells herself. They found the horonium and the Orion captain is going to let them use the time portal. Boimler goes first, and Mariner watches him stride through to the other side, back to the right time and the right place, where they both belong.
She steps forward, and the portal flashes blue and white and shuts down right in her face. She jerks back, startled, and stumbles down the steps, half-falling backwards; the Orion captain catches her in his arms, then lets her go just as quickly.
"What just happened?" Captain Pike says from behind her.
"Oh, just my life," Mariner says grimly.

Not that anybody had ever asked Gunn what he wanted to do when he grew up, but if they had, he wouldn't have said travel the continent hunting demons with an ex-Mountie, a deaf wolf, and a manifestation of ultimate evil in my head.
