Summary
What counts as 'family' changes and grows over time, it's only natural. Perhaps Cale has sped up the rate of expansion just slightly. Perhaps that family is taking care to peel away all the rotted parts of him that no longer cling comfortably. Cale wonders if he'll be the same person, once all his ugly, broken pieces are replaced. If he ever was a proper person to begin with.

Summary
The problem with always having a fly buzzing in your ear is that you struggle to listen to any of the noise outside of it. Cale tries to remind himself of this, meandering again across the continent to accomplish the Captain's ends lest he face even more nagging. When he finally clears his mind enough to hear the world around him, he gets to catching up on the gossip.
