From the moment Avery loaded up that pre-installed Minecraft world, he felt that he was being followed. Footsteps that disappeared the moment he turned around. Blocks he did not place. Remains of mobs he had not slain.
It turns out that the "thing" following him was not some eldritch horror, but rather another player. A player who seems to be rather secretive about how he managed to log onto Avery's single player world. And why he always seems to be online from the very moment Avery turns the game on. And why he is so dead set on not letting Avery go mining.

D3rlord3 finds himself inside the game's world after seeing the King in Yellow, and wants to make sure Avery does not meet the same fate.

Kai just hums again, unbothered. He truly does seem so unbothered, but not numb in the way the agents at the Administration were beaten into. He's like the running air of the sweet east coast that Jay swallowed greedily upon his first escape from the stuffy desks of the Administration. He was lucky, he knew, to be a manager. He had a little more free time and his leash was longer, and his mandated area of housing was bigger than the dormitories for interns. He was lucky, he knew, but he didn't feel like he was.
And the words he says next, he’ll blame on exhaustion, on tiredness, on isolation and the hunger that beats at him and crawls up his windpipe. “Am I too far gone?”
