Summary
As a rule of thumb, Realms ghosts didn't use their full power on humans. Their access to energy in the overworld was limited, after all, even somewhere as energy-dense as Amity Park, and to use too much energy would be to leave oneself in a weakened and vulnerable state. Their own emotions and mind acted as a limiter in much the way that the living brain put a cap on the functioning of muscles and sinew.
Amity Park, Illinois, was once the most haunted town in the United States, perhaps on Earth.
Amity Park was once a town, or perhaps a small city, in Illinois.
Amity Park no longer exists, but Phantom does, stuck in the center of a life- and death-devouring trap.

Summary
Danny hadn't meant for his parents to find out the truth. But when he came back from throwing Skulker back in the Infinite Realms to his parents rushing his body to the hospital, he didn't have much choice. They wouldn't leave his side and his body was shutting down despite all the equipment fighting to keep him alive. He never told them he was their son because that would bring more questions than answers. Locked up in the basement, the Drs. Fenton worked tirelessly to find a way to keep Phantom out but every time they did, Danny would start dying. There had to be a way to save their son. After exhausting every avenue of their own, they finally, reluctantly, reached out for help.
OR
When Danny goes ghost, he leaves his body behind in a semi-comatose state with critical vital signs. His parents find him that way, and when Phantom returns to his body, they think he's possessing their son. They can't keep him away, so they call the Justice League as a last resort.

Summary
Jack and Maddie Fenton have tried and failed to exorcise the powerful spirit inhabiting the body of their son. To make matters worse, he doesn't even believe he's possessed, and no amount of evidence can persuade him to accept reality. So, they do what any good parent would- they do their best to keep him safe and comfortable while they continue their search for a cure.
If that means keeping him locked down under 24-hour surveillance in an ecto-containment unit while they do that, then... well, it doesn't feel great, but he's their baby boy. And what else can they do?
Until they maybe, kind of, -accidentally- end up in maximum security prison for crimes against metahumanity, and then someone else has to take care of their son without them.
The good news is that the Justice League has a specialist.
The bad news is that Danny can't be cured.

He has no idea that those caped weirdos are actually the Bat-clan, that they are highly-skilled detectives and that his new friend might actually be a better scam artist than he is.
