“I’m going to create an automated version of myself to use as a distraction whenever the Bat or the cops are after me.”
Oswald stares at him blankly over his dinner, fork aloft over a pile of potatoes buttered to perfection. Ed waits patiently for his declaration to sink in.
“You’re making a robot clone?”
Edward nods, relenting to the barebones description of his plan simply because he loves Oswald and doesn’t want to waste time arguing semantics.
“Good luck, I suppose. Try to keep the power-tools to a minimum after 9.” The Penguin shrugs and returns to his food, clearly underestimating the undertaking that has been put before him.
“I don’t need luck. I’m a genius.”

Summary
An AU in which Isabella basically never shows up, Oswald tells Ed he loves him, but Ed cannot return his feelings. Still, they decide to continue as if nothing happened for the sake of their friendship, their successful working relationship and for Gotham. But Oswald’s obvious pining is getting in the way, making Ed feel awkward and uncomfortable, so the brilliant Chief of Staff comes up with an unorthodox solution for Oswald to get over his feelings. Ed suggests they start sharing certain intimacies, kisses and touches, hoping that once Oswald gets some level of physical warmth from Ed he’d be able to move on and not want Ed anymore.

Oswald presses his hand against Edward’s mouth, and to Edward’s surprise, it feels like how he’d imagine the real thing.
“Ed,” Oswald breathes out. “Just one night to say goodbye, and then we’ll be done forever.” He takes his hand away. “Why torture yourself any longer by resisting something you want so badly? No one will ever know.”
