It started simple enough: Sophomore year, a couple of shared classes, Kirin O'Conner being terrible in Honors English and Ivan Taylor being a sympathetic and willing, literary-protege desk mate. Tutoring, pairing up for assignments, back-and-forth texting over the homework—that’s all it was supposed to be.
So when Kirin O'Conner showed up at Ivan’s doorstep one hot and humid Saturday afternoon—unannounced and unplanned—with the sun beating down on his golden frame—-well, Ivan just about had a freakout of his own.
