Tim looked between Grey and Lucy. “Force of habit?” he asked.
“No,” Grey replied solemnly. Tim lifted his head, realising what was happening. “Tim, I just want you to know, this has nothing to do with the job you’re doing.”
Tim nodded, understanding. “I mean, it has something to do with it.”
“The brass agreed that while you’re a great Watch Commander, you’re a week back from paternity leave, and they’re worried about the handover.”
Tim sighed. “Fine. That’s…that’s fine. Probably for the best. I didn’t get much sleep last night.”
Grey looked up. “Baby up all night?”
“Yeah, um, neither of us sleep well when she’s not there, apparently.” He gestured to Lucy.

Summary
Lucy sits up in bed at two am, and something about it feels different than her normal restlessness. Tim blinks open his eyes at the shift in the mattress, and takes a moment to stare at her silhouette. Her back rises and falls with controlled, deep inhales and more vocal, long exhales. He feels the sheets crinkle and shift underneath her palms as she squeezes the fabric tight. A little over half a minute passes before she relaxes.
"Lucy?" She jumps a little at his voice. Tim sits up against their headboard, and shifts closer towards her. He wraps an arm around her and rests a hand on the side of her belly. Lucy sinks into him. "How long have you been having contractions?"
