Summary
Shane and Ilya are relaxing at the cottage after a disappointing end to their season, soaking up the freedom before their baby arrives by surrogate later in the summer. Ilya gets a call from his attorney’s office in Boston, which he has not used since he moved to Ottawa ten years earlier. His niece showed up in their office looking for how to contact him, the only thing she had to go on was an envelope with the firm’s name and address on the trust fund paperwork she stole from her dad before fleeing Russia.
This is the story of the first few months of parenthood, welcoming a new baby and an unexpected teenager in the course of a few weeks.

“What’ve you been thinking about?” Shane asks, quiet. His finger trails little circles across Ilya’s chest.
Ilya draws in a long breath, lets it out slowly. “I am thinking I want to give Jelly a sibling.”
Shane blinks, caught off guard.
“Okay, first of all,” he starts, annoyance zipping through his voice, “we’ve talked about this. You’re not calling our daughter Jelly.”
“Angelina, Jelly — is right in the name! We call her Jelly Bean, do we not?”
“Yes, but that’s just a nickname. The name everyone calls her can’t be Jelly! What about when she gets older? You want her walking around at seventeen going, Hi, my name’s Jelly?”
Ilya blows a raspberry at him. “Jelly is fun. You are fun police.”
OR when Shane and Ilya decide to expand their family and adopt from foster care, they accept placement of twelve-year-old Tess, who seems determined to make them regret their decision. Unfortunately for Tess, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have never been the type to give up on what's important.

Summary
When Ilya woke up that morning, the first thing his eyes saw were Shane's dark locks, then his beautiful skin, kissed by the warm rays of the sun that was shining bright in the sky.
Ilya had always felt safe there, tangled with the love of his life in his bed; he finally felt at home, after so many years of despair and hiding his feelings.
He really hoped that was just one of the many more mornings that life was giving them.
What he couldn’t have imagined, though, was that a few hours into that same day their lives would have changed forever. He really did not remember that black haired woman who was claiming to be the mother of a daughter he never knew of.

Ilya has the almost perfect life with the man he loves. Now, he has to find room in it for the daughter he didn’t know he had, and the woman who’s leaving her behind.

The minivan is the first thing Jane notices when they pull up the Hollanders' driveway.
“See?” she says pointedly to her husband. “They drive a normal car.”
“Janie, that’s a ninety-thousand dollar minivan,” Chris says. He puts the car in park; he’s been nervous since they left the house, but he’d never say so.
“You need to relax,” Jane laughs. “They’re just two nice, normal dads, who invited us over so our kids can play hockey.”
“Yeah, just normal, millionaire dads with like, seven Stanley Cups between them–”
Jane cuts him off. “You know how hard it’s been to make friends with some of the hockey parents here. These guys are nice! And the girls get along so well!” She points a finger at her husband’s face and lowers her voice. “Don’t screw this up for her.”
