He could still remember the day the Bell tolled for the pair, remembered how he’d found himself on his knees, hours later in the Grove, face gritty with dried tears, with his Companion standing silent sentry over him.
It’d been worse when the Bell had sounded for Van, Andrel dosing him and putting him to bed like he was a stripling again.
Delian had been short, almost cruel in a way he hadn’t known Companions could be, with a snarky comment about there being faster ways to take a final walk with the Shadow Lover if that’s what he sought.

Summary:
