Summary
Andrew Doe, rude but brilliant consulting detective, thought he had no need of a partner as he worked slowly away at dismantling the largest crime family in the country, helping out with other cases on the side to relieve the tedium. That was, until a scruffy runaway with a stupid amount of secrets stumbled into his life. Or, more accurately, broke into his kitchen.

Summary
Overall, Renee liked Neil. He was smart. He was quick. He wasn’t squeamish. He took no for an answer. He was fifteen, knew how to keep mum, and wielded knives almost as well as she did.
The Kenseys as a foster family were known to be absent, not supportive. She wondered briefly if they knew Neil hadn’t been home in days, and then decided that no, they probably didn’t.
( Mary leaves Neil to Witness Protection at age eleven, and the world isn't the same. )

Summary
Neil Josten let his cigarette burn to the filter without taking a drag.
Well. ‘Let’ was a choice word. ‘Let’ implied there was an alternative option he had considered, but ‘Neil’ and ‘considered’ were two words rarely spoken in the same sentence. Neil didn’t consider his actions for much more than a second before following through with them. Where was the fun in thinking things through? He needed the rush, needed the surge of adrenaline, needed the same feeling of being on an exy court every second of the day.an AU where neil is the one on andrew's medication
