Summary
Growing up the adopted daughter of a smalltime crime lord, Darcy learns early on that family means everything. She learns the ins and outs of running a criminal enterprise, has a head for the strategic business side of things, even, but she also learns that such matters are not meant to concern her. The family business is for Odin's sons to inherit; backroom meetings in dingy warehouses are no place for the daughter he's always wanted better for.
But whether Odin wants her to or not, Darcy learns from observing: she learns patience, learns strategy, learns to assess risks and identify danger... and she learns how to recognize when a hand's been overplayed, too. So when her foolish, ambitious little brother makes an arrogant mistake he doesn't seem to realize will cost him his life, Darcy steps in and makes a deal with the devil.
It's a risk, but it's one worth taking: She'll marry Brock Rumlow, the infamous Crossbones, and tip him off about Thor's plans in exchange for sparing her brother's life. And she might even find some happiness along the way, too, if only she can figure out what it is about Brock's Second in Command that has her constantly on edge.

Darcy's not thrilled, but she's also desperate and it's only supposed to be for a weekend anyways, so she figures: what's the harm? ...Turns out, there's quite a bit of harm when Darcy accidentally tells Mama Rumlow she and Brock are married, and things quickly spiral out of control from there.

Summary
How does someone go from tracking an unknown target to diving to certain death through an impassible hurricane in order to save them? Maybe it goes a bit like this: a few death-defying feats of bravery, a fair bit of flirtation, a whole boatload of social awkwardness, a generous spoonful of sexual attraction. Mix with jokes, touching, taking care of each other, and trust. Season liberally with the spice of the forbidden and some good old-fashioned hormones, and add just a dash of where have you been all my life. Maybe it's not a recipe for true love- but what a way to start.

No one expected Kate Eldridge to present Alpha. Not only was she female- a rarer trait shared by Alpha's- she appeared overwhelmingly average. With average height, average weight, average intelligence, and most curiously, average temperament, she was known as the 'Beta girl with an Alpha scent.' Never aggressive or demanding, Kate was an enigma among her Alpha brethren. It is only when her secret is revealed that she finally begins to understand her status as Alpha.
