Summary
Hawke spent an entire childhood wrestling with Carver. And a more than generous amount of his adulthood as well. They’d been boys and Hawke had been the older brother, and it had been basically mandatory for him to remind Carver of this as often as possible. But they’d wrestled like country kids, they’d scuffled gracelessly with fists and kicks and the raw power of teenage boys.
Hawke throws away the staff and slaps Fenris back with an open hand, the meat of his palm connecting with Fenris’ cheekbones.
Sparring gets out of hand for Hawke and Fenris. And then, curiously, back in hand.

In Which Grantaire Is Forced At Last To Test His Dedication To The Pursuit Of Revelry, An Extensive Carriage Trip Is Made, and A Blizzard Rolls Across Calais
“You are staring once again, Grantaire,” Enjolras murmurs.
“I am not,” Grantaire lies. Falsehood now comes easier than breathing to a man like Grantaire. Enjolras’ lips are blush pink at the edges and bruise-purple towards the interior. How would the merlot taste, licked from Enjolras’ mouth, the seat of his power?
“There is a fellow with the most peculiar of hairstyles sitting behind you and the oddity of such a such a sight simply begs for me to look upon it.”
Enjolras rolls his eyes and says nothing. They drink like that for a while, sharing silence between them. Grantaire exchanges wine for beer and spirits and back again. Grantaire glances across and catches the flutter of blonde hair in the corner of his eye.
Was Enjolras looking at him?

Summary
Grantaire's voice is breathy and weak. 'What mockery is this?"
"Grantaire. You play your hand so carelessly. You cannot call it a trick when your opponent learns your tells."
Enjolras corners Grantaire after a Les Amis meeting and plays his hand.

Summary
If Grantaire starts desperately needing to be wanted by not one, but both, of the least attainable people he knows, he’ll scream.
Grantaire's friends with benefits thing with Combeferre is going well - they're compatible in all the right ways and it's thrilling and wonderful that Combeferre puts so much trust in him. But every time he goes over to Combeferre's he has to interact with Enjolras. Enjolras who is blonde and gorgeous and righteous like a classical angel. Enjolras who hates him. But they're agreed to not argue inside of the apartment for Combeferre's sake and under all the nauseating optimism and compassion - it (ugh) turns out that Enjolras might just have a good sense of humour and an amazing laugh to boot.
But Grantaire sees the way they look at each other. Their soft smiles over coffee and the way they lean together over an article.
It can't last forever. (Can it?)

Summary
"Montparnasse," says Feuilly, holding the box up in one hand. "What is this?"
Montparnasse has felt like this around Feuilly in years, not since the early days when he was still so convinced that his boyfriend would run screaming at the slightest provocation.
"It's your engagement ring," says Montparnasse, keeping his voice measured and even.
A completely standard morning in Feuilly and Montparnasse's apartment.
