“You got a girl back home?” Audrey asked.
“No, I don’t have an anybody anywhere,” he replied.
“Have you met anyone you like since coming to town?” She shifted her gaze to Cooper’s face, trying to get a read on what he’d made of her question. He was looking a little flushed, no longer meeting her eye.
“There’s someone whose company I find myself enjoying immensely,” he said, voice soft. “But he has a partner and I’m not one to get in the way of that.”
He? Audrey’s heart skipped a beat for a moment, and before she could stop herself she blurted out, “So, that’s why you don’t like me? You’re gay?”

Agent Cooper goes to grab them some malts and fries and they have a good old fashioned sleepover in which several secrets are spilled. Canon compliant if you squint, could take place during S1E7.
