Summary
“So we meet again,” Ilya shouts, a lazy grin on his face as he peers at Shane from the Ottawa penalty box.
Shane glares back from Montreal’s penalty box, deadpan look on his face. He’s still fuming—angry that he got called for a practically non-existent penalty, angry that Ilya called for the same stupid penalty, and angrier that they’re both sitting out for the next two minutes of play because of it.
At least Ilya doesn’t seem too phased by it. In fact, he seems to be enjoying himself.
“You come here often?” Ilya asks in a flirtatious tone.
Shane snorts, shaking his head. “Not that often. But I heard you’re here a lot.”
Ilya spreads his arms. “Ah, but the penalty box is always better when you’re in yours, too. You always look so cute in there. Like a wet kitten.”
or: five times Shane and Ilya end up in their respective penalty boxes at the same time while playing against each other, plus one time they end up sharing one as teammates.

Ilya hummed. “Have you told your parents?”
Shane raised his eyebrows at him. “What, that I’m in the ER because I had my boyfriend’s cock so far up my ass that I started bleeding? No, I haven’t mentioned it.”
“Shane.”
“Ilya.”
As he stares him down, other things start to sort themselves out in Ilya’s mind. It makes him uneasy. “You didn’t play well tonight.”
Shane rolls his eyes. “Now is not the time–”
“No, no, sorry. Is just… did you not feel well?”
Shane shrugs. “The last few weeks I’ve been tired.”
Tired. Tired, yes. He can see the evidence underneath Shane’s eyes. And as his own eyes travel down Shane’s body, something else catches.
“You have a hickey.”
Shane’s eyes widen. “Ilya!”

Summary
And now, as Shane flew down the ice, carrying the puck back and forth with his stick, he found himself enjoying his own breathlessness. He felt his stomach jolt and his hands grow clammy with the excitement of the breakaway. The rink seemed to fade away as he got closer and closer to Toronto’s goalie. He did not see the crowd start to stand, sensing the impending goal. He did not see Montreal’s bench lean further over the boards, praying for the win that would clinch their spot in the cup finals and already imagining the glory of securing another title.
He did not see Todd Masterson.

Summary
Vincent Lemaire has been the best player on every team he's ever been on, so it makes sense when he's nominated for Rookie of the Year. Ethan Korogyi has been winning national championships since he was twelve years old, so it's only logical that he goes third in the draft overall.
But those achievements don't really matter. They don't mean anything when they are perpetually behind Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov.
At least they have each other. That's something Rozanov and Hollander will never understand.

Summary
In another timeline, Shane and Ilya hook up in room 1410, nothing goes wrong, and everything plays out exactly as we know it.
In this one, Yuna Hollander walks in before Ilya can leave—and the seven-year situationship never gets the chance to start. Instead, through the power of miscommunication, Shane and Ilya start dating in 2010. With better support, they make better decisions. Their rivalry fizzles out before it ever has the chance to fully ignite, replaced instead by a beloved “bromance". In 2015, they come out to the NHL and the world.
No one believes them.
Or: Somehow, despite Shane and Ilya being out for two years, Scott Hunter is still considered the first openly gay player in the NHL, much to Ilya’s horror.
