While obligatory, this series challenges a few pervasive narratives and hopes to rewrite foster aus as a concept through radical acceptance, diversity, and realistic healing.
Most people writing foster aus have no idea what they're doing. And tbf- that's okay. Most people aren't reading foster aus for accuracy. But as someone who is knowledgable about these systems and the trauma of foster care, I really wanted to see an au that tackled these concepts head on. So I did it myself.
Thus, encompass was born, a foster au that tackles topics such as
-disability
-neurodiversity
-queer identities
-self harm and recovery
-abuse cycles
-intersex identities
-how the foster system actually works
-guilt, shame, and pride

Summary
Tommy is born on the ninth of April, a day that'll certainly be marked in history, at least for those that are around to rewrite it. Because unlike the rest of the world, on the ninth of April, Tommy's story is starting at the start. At his start, at his beginning—but at millions of others' ends.
(Because, as the story goes, the world is dying. And as the story goes, Tommy's not. None of the children born on the ninth of April and afterward will.
At least not to the Sick.)

Summary
Tommy went to sleep one day and no one else woke up. Instead, there were red vines and silence. A scorching sun and scorching air. Sleeping friends and no company. The egg had taken over the world overnight, and the only one immune to it was a sixteen year old boy still shaken by his own execution and resurrection. He has to care for his friends and enemies alike, rescue anyone he can, and grieve those he cannot. He has to become an army on his own- a farmer, a blacksmith, a doctor and a warrior. He has to face his biggest fears alone and come out stronger- or die forgotten and alone in the sea of red vines that has taken over everything he once knew.
But most importantly, he has to figure out how the hell to wake everyone back up.
