She had to dominate the situation, control everything and get the power to do so. She didn't care about the cost, or what they said about her. The time when that would have mattered to her had already passed.
Probably a few years earlier she would have tried dialogue and compromise; she would refuse to participate in shady things, even if she was told she would come out on top. Sharon would stand her ground like a tree, look them in the eye and tell them no, move along because she wouldn't do it.
The problem was that she was no longer that girl, that part of her was dead. Now she would play dirty, they would only see her giving the last thrust. Sharon would be the wolf in sheep's clothing that would set the whole barn on fire. -
