It was truly the worst day of his life. Mercutio died, his cousin was in exile, his aunt hadn’t taken the news well and shut herself away. Benvolio had no idea what to do anymore, and with the day coming to a close, he didn’t know how to enter a home with only half the family that should be there.

Summary
Romeo and Juliet had ended their lives five years ago, laying with them: Tybalt, Paris, and Lady Montague. Benvolio had grown, now 23, and spends his time working under Prince Escalus in an attempt to stay close to the loss that had affected him the most, Mercutio. However, as Prince Escalus begins to prepare his estate to accept a new heir, the one he calls upon is not Valentine, but instead Mercutio, who is finally asked to return home.

Summary
Welcome to the Caro-verse! In a nutshell, the Caro-verse is a large, sprawling AU of Romeo and Juliet. It's built off of two major departures from the original play. The first departure is that Mercutio survives his Act III duel with Tybalt. The second departure is that Benvolio and Mercutio become lovers, and they spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to approach life in late-sixteenth-century Italy from that perspective.
