The flash of her teeth, dark red with her own essence, is utterly perverse. It should make Lara recoil, or provoke some sort of prey instinct. It doesn’t. Carmilla’s eyes are piercing, pupil pinpricks, glowing pools in the setting sun. Her golden hair refracts like a halo. She's a paradox. A leech.
“You’re a creation,” Lara stops, starts, continues. “We need to go."
Carmilla pulls the puncture deeper into her mouth, humming. Her cheeks hollow as she swallows, sucks harder, and swallows again. Time seeps away.
“Yet you grow so warm.”
Miss Fontaine has kept Lara away for a terribly long time.

My school is co-ed.” She slinks an arm up over Hecate’s shoulder, mouth finding its way near her ear. “The potions mistress of the school with the second best potions mark says Pentangle’s is not welcome at the annual Spelling Bee?” Her lips are nearly against Hecate’s ear now, her breath hot, her body flush against Hecate’s own, “Then my school will win.”
She steps back and gives Hecate a look. “Even if it takes years of dodging the musty old rule book that you’re sure to throw at me for us to get there.”
