Daniil rubbed his thumb over his bottom lip as he inspected the Haruspex in his curious state of dress, clad above the waist in only a thin undershirt and black leather gloves. His shirt was soaked with sweat, and his skin glistened with it in the low lamplight that only accentuated his ruddy complexion. "...No," Artemy managed to grind out after a tense moment. Another pause followed, broken by his cryptic clarification of: "Not quite."

Summary
The thing is, Wilson doesn’t see himself as good enough to take care of another living thing.
He can take care of himself to a degree. He can cook, and fight a little bit, and run and hide and get things done to avoid the claws slowly making their way towards him in the dark of the night. He’s good at that.
But that’s not enough for someone to depend on him. He’s not a good enough protector, not a good enough caregiver. (Not a good enough father.)
Even so, he will have to learn how to be one.
