Ponyboy knows it's wrong to want to be dead. And it's not like he's going to do anything about it- it's just a thought. An extremely enticing thought.

Even after everything goes back to normal Ponyboy just can't seem to get his head right. He just needs a distraction. So he starts to sneak out with Curly Shepard, smoke more than he should, and even do some things he knows could be seen as suicidal. But once everyone, (even Curly), starts to worry about his mental state it makes him wonder if his problems are bigger than he thought. Can he be saved from everything- including himself?

Summary
Ponyboy is not an idiot.
He knows he is disabled. He knows he can’t do everything everyone else can. Contrary to the belief of Darry, Soda, and the rest of the gang, he does actually care about his body. Pushing it sometimes doesn’t make him ‘irresponsible’ or whatever Darry said last time he was scolding him, it just makes him a little stubborn. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Despite all of this, Pony doesn’t want everyone to know that his leg is acting up again. It’s fine. He doesn't need to take a break from track or sit down for every single task. He just needs to walk it off.
What the gang doesn’t know won’t hurt them.
Or,
After a run-in with a group of Socs, Ponyboy finds his disability to be flared up. He limps everywhere he goes and takes way too much pain relieving medication. However, he still tries to hide the injury from the rest of the gang. He doesn’t want to worry them like he always does.
But even he knows that they’ll find out eventually, even if it’s in the worst way possible.
