She already knows where this is going, but she’s frozen in place, unable to stop the words from continuing to come out of Rio’s mouth. “And I had to do something I did not want to do, even though it was my job. And it hurt them. She is my scar.” She feels her face burn at the implication, at the memory of what had ended things between them so abruptly all those years ago. The thoughts are dizzying over the reminder of that betrayal.
