With the rise of Voldemort, Regulus is his right hand man, seemingly grateful to him for stepping in as a father figure when his own parents have never supported him. Sirius and James, both heartbroken that Regulus abandoned them, fight in the Order, unaware that Regulus is working on a mission of his own. A mission that's cut short when Pettigrew turns up at a death eater meeting.

Regulus misses James and Sirius, but he can't go to them. Not until he's taken down Voldemort and everyone who supported him.

James looks back at him, taking him in properly, his gaze slow and judgemental. When he meets Regulus’ eyes again, the corner of his mouth is turned up in a cruel smirk.
“So, this is the perfect brother.” His eyes zero in on the mess around his bed. “I have to say, you’re not quite what I expected.”
Regulus feels a tell-tale flush rising up his neck, into his cheeks. He straightens imperiously. “I have to say, I wasn’t even aware of your existence up until moments ago. But nice to know that you’ve been thinking of me.”

The first time Regulus meets James, he hates him.
This keeps happening until, one day, he doesn’t.

Regulus shakes his head to clear it while mystery man’s back is turned. What the fuck was that about?
“Sorry,” he begins. “But what’s interesting?”
“Oh nothing,” mystery man says, turning back around to smirk at Regulus. “I was just wondering how you could possibly know what it’s about when you’ve been staring at me the past fifteen minutes without turning a single page.”
